Yes No Palm Fist

I'm working with a patient who's only verbal output is 'yeah'. He has global aphasia with severe expressive language impairments and an inconsistent Yes/no response. He is however able to match pictures to objects and has relatively preserved understanding of simple instructions/ information in context.

- Tick/ cross - inconsistent at pointing
- Head nod/ shake - inconsistent
- Touching a fist for no or an open palm for yes - so far has been consistent.

I think that touching a fist/ palm is more iconic and concrete, allowng the patinet to reliably indicate yes/no with staff. For the next step i am going to print a picture of a palm/ fist so that the patient can respond to questions independently.
